Hybrids between Agropyron trachycaulum and A. intermedium
Euphytica, 1983Interspecific hybrids between Agropyron trachycaulum (Link) Malte (2n=28 and 56) as female and A. intermedium (Host) Beauv. (2n=42) were obtained by controlled pollination and embryo culture. Five pentaploid hybrids (2n=35 or aneuploid) were closest to A.

C-banded karyotypes of Agropyron intermedium (2n=6x=42, E1E2X), a partial amphiploid Triticum aestivum -Ag. intermedium (2n=8x=56, TAF46), and six derived chromosome addition lines, were analyzed. In Ag. intermedium, diagnostic C-bands were present on 14 pairs of chromosomes, designated from A to N, while the remaining seven pairs, designated O to U ...

Transfer of Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus Resistance from Agropyron intermedium into Wheat
Crop Science, 1996Wheat streak mosaic is a damaging disease of cultivated bread wheat, Triticum aestivum L. em Thell., in many parts of the world. No wheat cultivar has a high level of resistance to WSMV or its vector, the wheat curl mite, Eriophyes tulipae Keifer. Genes conferring resistance to wheat curl mite colonization have been transferred from Aegilops tauschii ...

A Giemsa-C-banded karyotype of a partial amphiploid, Triticum turgidum L. var. durum cv. ‘Nodak’ × Agropyron intermedium (Host) P.B., called MT-2, was analyzed. MT-2 is a winterhardy grasslike octoploid germplasm which survived 5 winters in Montana, and its seed weight is 3 times that of A. intermedium seed.

The relationships of Agropyron intermedium chromosomes in two wheat-Agropyron addition series were determined. Chromosome pairing behaviour revealed that the alien chromosome in lines TAF-2 and L7 of 'Vilmorin'-A. intermedium set are homologous to the alien chromosomes in lines P and C of the 'Caribo'-A. intermedium set respectively.

Shoots were regenerated from ‘Oahe’ intermediate wheatgrass anthers cultured on Tsay's, N6, Yu-pei and 85D12 basal media supplemented with kinetin and 2,4-D or NAA. Androgenesis mainly started with symmetrical divisions of pollen nuclei immediately followed by cytokinesis.

A high amount of intravarietal variation in satellites and C-banded chromosomes was observed in the hexaploid wheatgrass synthetic cultivar 'Greenleaf' (Agropyron intermedium ssp. trichophorum (Link) A. &Gr., 2n = 6x = 42, genome E1E1E2E2SS).

A significant negative effect of the 6Ag i (6D) chromosome from Agropyron intermedium on the resistance of spring bread wheat Triticum aestivum to preharvesting sprouting has been demonstrated in redgrain and white-grain recombinant inbred lines (F7–F10 and older) and in near isogenic lines.

Data on quantitative characters from polycross progeny tests of Agropyron intermedium (Host.) Beauv. were analysed and used to study interrelationships of various characters and to compare relative efficiency of breeding schemes. The forage and seed yields of progenies from green plants were greater at three test locations than progenies from bluish ...

SynopsisSeed size, coleoptile length, emergence, and seedling height varied widely in intermediate wheatgrass. High positive correlations were found among all characters. Variance for general combining ability was high. Analysis of a diallel cross indicated a strong maternal influence on coleoptile length.
