Water‐saving strategies in rice farming entail cascading effects in prey–predator interactions across ecosystem boundaries

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 9, Page 2273-2282, September 2025.
These results show that introducing multiple drainage periods in rice fields (i.e. AWD) indirectly hampers terrestrial spider reproduction through limiting the emergence of potential preys from the aquatic to terrestrial boundaries. MSD resulted in a more conciliatory strategy as it largely reduces methane emissions and does not affect predator–prey ...

Functional traits and soil water availability shape competitive interactions in a diploid–polyploid complex

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 9, Page 2332-2345, September 2025.
Our study emphasises that the long‐term fate of polyploids largely depends on water availability, with high polyploids having a competitive advantage in arid environments. This ultimately highlights the role of functional traits in shaping the competitive dynamics between cytotypes.

Biochar‐Amended Soils: A Water‐Saving Strategy for Quinoa Cultivation in the Andes

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 4, Issue 1, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction Previous studies showed that biochar amended soils significantly enhanced the growth and yield of quinoa under water limitations. So it becomes an emerging agronomic strategy to consider for sustainable quinoa production. Biochar can specifically be considered for the area particularly receiving low annual rainfall and more ...

Modeling the current and future habitat suitability of Neltuma pallida in the dry forest of northern Peru under climate change scenarios to 2100

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2024.
The objective of this research was to evaluate the current and future distribution and conservation status of Neltuma pallida in the Peruvian dry forest under climate change scenarios over the last few years. The findings indicated that the likely range of habitats for N. pallida was shaped by factors such as the average temperature of wettest quarter,

Blind shots: non‐natural mortality counteracts conservation efforts of a threatened waterbird

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 27, Issue 3, Page 293-307, June 2024.
The assessment of the marbled teal population reinforcement programme in Spain carrying out releases of captive‐bred birds showed that 60% of the mortality is due to non‐natural causes, mostly illegal shooting. To establish a self‐sustaining population, non‐natural mortality should be reduced by 40% and management measures such as prosecution of ...
