ABSTRACT Geochemical data compiled from dried sediments from three water reservoirs at the ancient Maya city of Ucanal, Petén, Guatemala, reveal low to undetectable fecal biomarker concentrations. In this paper we study the tombs with Gray Engraved Aguada pottery corresponding to the Barrealito phases at Azampay and Orilla Norte at La Aguada. We compare them to the known assemblages which contain only painted pottery or painted and engraved pottery and establish similarities and differences between the thematic contexts of mortuary units.
