Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Ovophis makazayazaya (Viperidae, Crotalinae) and Phylogenetic Analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This study sequenced and annotated the complete 17,230 bp mitochondrial genome of Ovophis makazayazaya, which contains 13 protein‐coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and a D‐loop region, with a significant AT bias (57.2%). Phylogenetic analyses confirmed its placement within Crotalinae, and all PCGs showed evidence of purifying selection (Ka/Ks < 1)

Spirosilanes Activate Gold(I)‐Catalysts in Cycloisomerization and Intermolecular Reactions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 1, 2 January 2026.
Spirosilanes activate LAuCl complexes to promote catalysis. This silver‐free activation through weak interactions is nondestructive so that low loadings of LAuCl are possible as well as their recycling. It can also be beneficial for asymmetric catalysis.

Resource‐Efficient Electrodes with Metallized Woven‐Glass‐Grid Current Collectors for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
The use of metallized glass‐based woven‐grids instead of metal foils as current collectors for LIBs leads to a significant reduction in metal usage by over 90 % and weight savings of more than 80 %, resulting in an 11 % increase in specific energy at the cell level. Abstract A novel class of resource‐efficient, woven‐glass‐grid current collectors (CCs)

Effect of integrated inorganic and organic fertilizer on yield and yield components of maize at Bako Agricultural Research Center in Western Ethiopia

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the combined application of vermicompost and NPS fertilizer on maize (Zea mays L.) yield and yield components under low soil fertility conditions in western Ethiopia. A field experiment was conducted at Bako Agricultural Research Center using a randomized complete block design with three replications.

Risk Factors Associated With Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Among Patients Attending Hospitals in Kabul, Afghanistan: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesJGH Open, Volume 10, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common gastrointestinal disorder with substantial impact on quality of life and healthcare systems. However, data on factors associated with GERD in Afghanistan remain limited, particularly in urban clinical settings.

Trade‐Offs in Field Pea (Pisum sativum L.) Health: Staking, Variety, and Fungicide Integration Curb Powdery Mildew Epidemics and Enhance Agronomic Performance but Suppress Symbiotic Nodulation

open access: yesLegume Science, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Field pea, a versatile cool‐season crop that is largely produced for grain and green pods, has trouble being productive worldwide, including in Ethiopia, where it is mainly affected by powdery mildew (PM, Erysiphe pisi). This study evaluated the effectiveness of staking, variety, and fungicide combinations on PM development, agronomic traits ...

Mitochondrial Phylogenomics and Genome Evolution in Anura: Insights From Structure and Gene Order Rearrangements

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
By analyzing 277 anuran mitochondrial genomes, this study reconstructs a robust phylogeny for frogs and toads, tracing their origins to the Triassic and major radiations to the Cretaceous‐Neogene. The research identifies 58 distinct gene arrangement patterns, providing a novel evolutionary framework.

Regional Inequalities in Trachoma Prevention in Ethiopia: A Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Trachoma remains a significant public health problem in Ethiopia, particularly affecting children. Mothers play a crucial role in implementing preventive practices that interrupt trachoma transmission. Therefore, this systematic review and meta‐analysis seek to address Regional Inequalities in Trachoma Prevention in ...

Upcoming Treatments in Celiac Disease: From Luminal Enzymes to Oral Immune Tolerance

open access: yesUnited European Gastroenterology Journal, Volume 14, Issue 3, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Celiac disease (CeD) is a chronic autoimmune enteropathy triggered by dietary gluten in genetically predisposed individuals. Currently, a gluten‐free diet (GFD) is the only available treatment, being effective in improving mucosal health and symptoms. However, a considerable percentage of celiacs continue to exhibit residual mucosal damage and

Enzymatic Remodelling of Tumour Microenvironment Enhances Anti‐CEACAM5 CAR T‐Cell Efficacy Against Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 13, 3 March 2026.
This study shows anti‐CEACAM5 CAR T‐cells are ineffective against colorectal cancer (CRC) because of CEACAM5 sequestration at intercellular junctions and the thick tumour cell glycocalyx. Enzymatic treatments of CRC cell monolayer/tissue section with trypsin or hyaluronidase restore CEACAM5 availability, enhance CAR T‐cell activation, increase ...
