Ehl-i kitap (ehlü’l-kitâb) tabiri, “kitaplılar, kendilerine kitap verilenler” ile “okuma yazma bilenleri” ifade eden Kur’anî bir kavram olup, esasen, “ilahî bir kitaba inananlar” anlamını içermektedir. Dolayısıyla bu bağlamda kendileri de bir kitap (Kur’an) sahibi olan Müslümanlara da “Ehl-i kitap” denilebilir.
