Non-symmetric bi-stable flow around the Ahmed body
International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 2016Abstract The flow around the Ahmed body at varying Reynolds numbers under yawing conditions is investigated experimentally. The body geometry belongs to a regime subject to spanwise flow instability identified in symmetric flow by Cadot and co-workers (Grandemange et al., 2013b).

Aspect ratio and the dynamic wake of the Ahmed body
Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 2022Abstract The dynamic structures in the wake of the Ahmed body with a 25° slant angle were investigated. It is well established that the wake is dominated by two, counter rotating, streamwise vortex structures (C-pillar vortices). The influence these vortices have on the flow over the slant back was altered by modifying the width of the body between ...

Computational Aerodynamics of the Ahmed Model Car Body
Volume 2: Fora, 2006This study reports aerodynamic computations of a model car body using various turbulence models. Simulation results were compared with data from wind tunnel tests, for two rear slant angles. The results indicate that RSM simulations gave slightly better predictions of the drag coefficient in both cases.

Unsteady flow structures around a high-drag Ahmed body
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2015This work aims to gain a relatively thorough understanding of unsteady predominant coherent structures around an Ahmed body with a slant angle of $25^{\circ }$, corresponding to the high-drag regime. Extensive hot-wire, flow visualization and particle image velocimetry measurements were conducted in a wind tunnel at $\mathit{Re}=(0.45{-}2.4)\times 10^{

The influence of background turbulence on Ahmed-body wake bistability
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2021The discovery of wake bistability has generated an upsurge in experimental investigations into the wakes of simplified vehicle geometries. Particular focus has centred on the probabilistic switching between two asymmetrical bistable wake states of a square-back Ahmed body; however, the majority of this research has been undertaken in wind tunnels with ...

Passive flow control on Ahmed body by rear linking tunnels
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 2020Abstract This paper concentrates on the interaction of a car body with the surrounding airflow, in order to provide small changes for reducing vehicle fuel consumption by reducing drag. There are many passive and active methods for this purpose, the main goal of this project is the development of passive drag reduction devices for the simplified ...

Experimental and numerical studies of the flow around the Ahmed body
Wind and Structures, 2013The present study aims to investigate characteristics of the flow structures around the Ahmed body by using both experimental and numerical methods. Therefore, 1/4 scale Ahmed body having slant angle was employed.

Large eddy simulation of flow around the Ahmed body
2004The automotive industry has a high demand for reliable simulation methods capable of tackling the complex turbulent air flow around vehicles. The Ahmed reference model is a generic car-type bluff body with a slant back. It is frequently used as a benchmark test case for this kind of flow.

Active flow control on an Ahmed body - An experimental study
53rd AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 201525 Ahmed model for the purpose of controlling aerodynamics. The application of steady microjet actuators in multiple congurations are investigated through a series of experimental studies. Each arrays’ location is selected to target key ow features, e.g. the slant separation bubble, the trailing wake vortices, and the c-pillar vortices.
