Large Eddy Simulation of the Flow Around an Ahmed Body

Volume 2, Parts A and B, 2004
A new approach for large eddy simulation (LES) of the flows around ground vehicles is demonstrated. It is based on the character of the flow with large regions of recirculations rather than on traditional resolution requirements for the LES of wall bounded flows.

The Body of Sound: Ahmed Essyad’s Electroacoustic Music

«Art is life in the face of death», says Moroccan composer Ahmed Essyad in conversation with sound artist and researcher Gilles Aubry as part of his Norient Special Sawt, Bodies, Species. In this extended interview, Aubry speaks with Essyad about a great variety of topics, including performance in electroacoustic music, cultural roots and identity («my

Numerical Simulation and Control of the 3D Flow Around Ahmed Body

2011
The goal of this work is on the one hand to simulate the flow around a simplified ground vehicle called Ahmed body in order to identify the structures that contribute strongly to the drag coefficient and on the other hand to control the flow by an action on these main structures to reduce the drag forces.

Unsteady Flow Structure Behind A Low-Drag Ahmed Body

2018
Unsteady flow structure behind an Ahmed body with a slant angle of 35°, corresponding to the low-drag regime, has been experimentally investigated at Re of 6.59 × 104. Measurements are conducted using single hotwire and flow visualization techniques. The major flow characteristics are examined.

Aerodynamic drag reduction of an Ahmed body based on deflectors

Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 2016
Abstract The effects of deflectors on the aerodynamic drag and near wake of an Ahmed model with a 25° slant angle were experimentally investigated. Experiments were conducted in a closed circuit low speed wind tunnel at a Reynolds number of 8.7×10 5 , based on the free stream oncoming velocity ( U ∞ ) and model length ( l ).

Computational Aerodynamics Study of Ahmed Body Car Model

2006
Vehicle Aerodynamics has been the focus of study by researchers for centuries. This interest can be owed to increasing demand on fuel efficiency, vehicle top speed and acceleration performance. Interior aerodynamics, such as engine cooling, air conditioning, wind noise, stability, and cross wind sensitivity play key role in customer satisfaction. Hence

LES Investigation of Passive Flow Control Around an Ahmed Body

Volume 7A: Fluids Engineering Systems and Technologies, 2013
Large eddy simulations are used to study passive flow control for drag reduction in a simplified ground vehicle. Add on devices in the form of short cylinders are used for the formation of streaks in the streamwise direction that lead to the separation delay.

Drag Reduction of an Ahmed Body Using Combined Steady Blowings

2018
Active drag reduction of an Ahmed body with slant angle of 25° has been experimentally investigated at a Reynolds number Re of 1.67 × 105, based on the square root of the body cross-sectional area. A combination of steady blowing is deployed along the upper and two side edges of the rear window and the upper edge of the vertical base, resulting in a ...
