A Multivalent Probe for AI-2 Quorum-Sensing Receptors [PDF]
Multivalency is a common principle in the recognition of cellular receptors, and multivalent agonists and antagonists have played a major role in understanding mammalian cell receptor biology. The study of bacterial cell receptors using similar approaches, however, has lagged behind.

Interference with AI-2-mediated bacterial cell–cell communication [PDF]
Bacteria communicate by means of chemical signal molecules called autoinducers. This process, called quorum sensing, allows bacteria to count the members in the community and to alter gene expression synchronously across the population. Quorum-sensing-controlled processes are often crucial for successful bacterial--host relationships--both symbiotic ...

Chemotaxis to the Quorum-Sensing Signal AI-2 Requires the Tsr Chemoreceptor and the Periplasmic LsrB AI-2-Binding Protein [PDF]
ABSTRACTAI-2 is an autoinducer made by many bacteria. LsrB binds AI-2 in the periplasm, and Tsr is thel-serine chemoreceptor. We show that AI-2 strongly attractsEscherichia coli. Both LsrB and Tsr are necessary for sensing AI-2, but AI-2 uptake is not, suggesting that LsrB and Tsr interact directly in the periplasm.

Shallow-layer p-y curves for single micropile in sands
Micropiles are increasingly used in seismic design or retrofitting for pile foundations. This study aims to investigate the validity of the widely used p-y relationships proposed by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the ‘m method'; in the ...

LuxS distribution and AI-2 activity of Campylobacter spp. [PDF]
This study investigates the distribution of LuxS within Campylobacter (Camp.) species and Autoinducer (AI)-2 activity of Camp. jejuni NCTC 11168 in food matrices. LuxS (S-ribosylhomocysteinase) sequences of different Campylobacter spp. were compared, and AI-2 activity was measured with an AI-2 reporter assay.
