Aid, Aid for Trade, and bilateral trade: An empirical study
In a gravity model for 184 countries between 1990 and 2005, we show that bilateral aid is not only positively correlated with donor exports, as suggested in earlier studies, but also positively associated with recipient exports to donors. Our interpretation is that an intensified aid relation reduces the effective cost of distance.

Aid for Trade: Cool Aid or Kool-Aid? [PDF]
Aid for Trade may alleviate some fears by developing countries about the social cost of trade reforms and hence help de-block the WTO negotiations. It may also help address critical supply-side issues and contribute to the achievement of the MDGs. However, there is wide divergence in views what is covered, what should be supported and how.

Oxford Review of Economic Policy, 2007
This paper surveys the recent theoretical and empirical literature that explores the relations between aid and trade and asks about the complementarity or substitution effects at work. We distinguish between the effects of aid on trade flows and on trade policies, of the donor as well as the recipient countries.
