Incorporating Contact Network Structure in Cluster Randomized Trials [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Whenever possible, the efficacy of a new treatment, such as a drug or behavioral intervention, is investigated by randomly assigning some individuals to a treatment condition and others to a control condition, and comparing the outcomes between the two groups.

CROR: Coding-Aware Opportunistic Routing in Multi-Channel Cognitive Radio Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Cognitive radio (CR) is a promising technology to improve spectrum utilization. However, spectrum availability is uncertain which mainly depends on primary user's (PU's) behaviors. This makes it more difficult for most existing CR routing protocols to achieve high throughput in multi-channel cognitive radio networks (CRNs). Inter-session network coding

Opportunistic Wireless Relay Networks: Diversity-Multiplexing Tradeoff [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
Opportunistic analysis has traditionally relied on independence assumptions that break down in many interesting and useful network topologies. This paper develops techniques that expand opportunistic analysis to a broader class of networks, proposes new opportunistic methods for several network geometries, and analyzes them in the high-SNR regime.

Interpretable Network Propagation with Application to Expanding the Repertoire of Human Proteins that Interact with SARS-CoV-2 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Background: Network propagation has been widely used for nearly 20 years to predict gene functions and phenotypes. Despite the popularity of this approach, little attention has been paid to the question of provenance tracing in this context, e.g., determining how much any experimental observation in the input contributes to the score of every ...

Analysis of Research on the Effects of Improved Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene on the Health of People Living with HIV and AIDS and Programmatic Implications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper reviews the existing scientific and programmatic evidence, raises WASH issues in the HIV and AIDS context that need further study to build the evidence base, assesses current WASH guidance through a review of national HIV/AIDS guidelines from ...

Opportunistic illnesses in Brazilian children with AIDS: results from two national cohort studies, 1983-2007

open access: yesAIDS Research and Therapy, 2011
Background HAART has significantly reduced AIDS-related morbidity in children. However, limited evidence is available from developing countries regarding patterns of opportunistic illnesses.

Flow cytometry to assess the counts and physiological state of Cronobacter sakazakii cells after heat exposure [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Cronobacter sakazakii is an opportunistic pathogen associated with outbreaks of neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis, septicemia, and meningitis. Reconstituted powdered infant formulae (PIF) is the most common vehicle of infection. Plate count methods do not provide direct information on the physiological status of cells.

Trends in overall opportunistic illnesses, Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, cerebral toxoplasmosis and Mycobacterium avium complex incidence rates over the 30 years of the HIV epidemic: a systematic review

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2014
Background: The natural history of HIV infection has changed dramatically after the introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy. Currently, opportunistic illnesses still represent a major cause of death and hospitalization in this population. In

A Study of N-Acetyl aspartic acid/Creatine Ratio in the White Matter of HIV Positive Patients and Its Application [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
A total of 50 patients were enrolled in the study, and MRI brain with MR spectroscopy was done. Tuberculosis was the most common neurologic disease found in the HIV positive group, consisting of 9 patients. Seven of these patients had tuberculous meningitis amongst which a further 2 had vasculitic infarcts.PML was seen in 6 patients.
