Rinne test: Does the tuning fork position affect the sound amplitude at the ear?
Background Guidelines and text-book descriptions of the Rinne test advise orienting the tuning fork tines in parallel with the longitudinal axis of the external auditory canal (EAC), presumably to maximise the amplitude of the air conducted sound signal ...

TECTB Variants Reveal Tectorial Membrane Vulnerability in Dominant Non‐Syndromic Hearing Loss
TECTB is a non‐collagenous protein of the tectorial membrane – an extracellular matrix of the cochlea. This study identifies dominant missense variants in TECTB linked to human hereditary deafness in two unrelated families. Genetically engineered mice homozygous for one of the variants are profoundly deaf, whereas heterozygous mice have normal hearing ...

Can The Configuration of Petrous Bone Pneumatization be a Predictor of Tinnitus?
Introduction: In this study, we tried to evaluate a possible relationship between petrous bone pneumatization and subjective pulsatile tinnitus (SPT).Methods: The temporal bone computed tomographic (CT) images of 35 patients with SPT admitted to our ...

Sleep disturbance severity closely tracks hearing loss in a clinical cohort, yet the mechanistic link remains unclear. Acute sleep deprivation is shown to trigger transient cochlear oxidative stress that switches into a self‐sustaining neuroinflammatory state, suppressing BK channels and causing irreversible synaptopathy.

ABSTRACT Mechanophores with mechanochromic properties have attracted significant attention as force‐responsive materials for structural sensing. However, their applications remain mainly limited to qualitative force visualization, as direct and quantitative extraction of mechanical parameters such as stress and strain from mechanochromic responses has ...

Ultrasound neuromodulation as a novel dementia therapy—Investigation of possible long‐term confounds
INTRODUCTION Ultrasound neuromodulation has emerged as a promising adjunctive therapy in Alzheimer's disease (AD), yet a controversial issue remains: whether its reported long‐term therapeutic effects could be attributed to potential confounds rather ...

Designing an Open-Back Enclosure to Mitigate Sound Leakage for Open-Ear Headphones
Small open-ear headphones are comfortable because they do not block the auricle or ear canal, which eliminates the occlusion effect and enables users to hear ambient sounds naturally and achieve accurate binaural reproduction in principle. However, their
