Characteristics of concrete mix air-entrainment applying the sequential pressure method

open access: yesRoads and Bridges, 2020
The purpose of introducing air into the concrete mix is to increase the freeze-thaw and scaling resistance of hardened concrete. The utility of the sequential pressure method (Super Air Meter - SAM) for assessment of the air entrainment quality was ...

Air entrainment in hydraulic structures: a review [PDF]

open access: yesMaritime Engineering, 1998
Dropshafts, siphons, inclined conduits, and weirs are some hydraulic structures which involve air entrainment. This paper investigates three mechanisms of air entrainment suggesting broad-brush equations to predict the aeration rate. Air bubble transport in closed conduits downstream of the entrainment point is also considered.

Freeze‐Thaw Durability of Air‐Entrained Concrete [PDF]

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
One of the most damaging actions affecting concrete is the abrupt temperature change (freeze‐thaw cycles). The types of deterioration of concrete structures by cyclic freeze‐thaw can be largely classified into surface scaling (characterized by the weight loss) and internal crack growth (characterized by the loss of dynamic modulus of elasticity).

The Filament Extension Atomization Process for Powder Production of Elastic Fluids

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Filament extension atomization is a promising technique for spraying a wide range of materials, enabling narrow droplet size distributions. This study examines the behavior of various fluids and suspensions to define application limits and identify optimal operating conditions.

Application of Ultrasonic Sensors for Determining the Height of Dynamic Two‐Phase Layers in Tray Columns

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Ultrasonic sensors are evaluated for their applicability in dynamic gas–liquid systems. By comparing sensor data with two independent optical reference methods, their robustness and reliability are demonstrated under varying flow conditions and tray geometries in column systems.

Numerical study of structural parameters on the performance of piccolo-tube muti-nozzles supersonic ejector in air-cooled passage

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
The enhanced performance of aircraft engines has intensified the challenge of improving cooling efficiency. In addressing the issue of inadequate cooling air in the idle and taking-off states, which adversely affects the working environment of the ...

A novel bubbling fluid bed reactor for the autothermal pyrolysis of waste plastics

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract A new pilot‐scale fluidized bed reactor operated under continuous conditions was developed and tested for the thermal pyrolysis of high‐density polyethylene (HDPE). The study focused on assessing the reliability and operability of the system under different operating conditions (400–550°C), while monitoring mass and energy balances, product ...

Experimental study on burning rate and flame geometry in construction tunnel fires under high geothermal conditions

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract As tunnel construction advances in lengths and depths, the construction of tunnels in high geothermal environments has become increasingly common, raising significant fire risks. In this study, a 1:20 scale model tunnel test platform was constructed to investigate the effects of a high geothermal environment on fire behavior in tunnels during ...

Water Electrolysis Technologies for Extraterrestrial Water Resource Conversion

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
This paper reviews four water electrolysis technologies for extraterrestrial water conversion: alkaline water electrolysis, proton exchange membrane water electrolysis, solid oxide water electrolysis, and anion exchange membrane water electrolysis. It elaborates on their mechanisms, components, and integration, highlighting challenges such as water ...

Stepped spillway flows and air entrainment [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 1993
Stepped spillways have become a popular method for handling flood releases. The steps significantly increase the rate of energy dissipation taking place on the spillway face and reduce the size of the required downstream energy dissipation basin. The compatibility of stepped spillways with roller compacted concrete and gabion construction techniques ...
