Making an air-source heat pump smart-grid ready [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
In this paper we discuss the differences between the industrial and academic definition of smart-grid readiness of heat pumps and investigate possibilities to bridge this gap such that existing heat pumps, to a higher degree, can participate in a smart-grid or flexibility setting.

Tissue Engineered Human Elastic Cartilage From Primary Auricular Chondrocytes for Ear Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Despite over three decades of research, no tissue‐engineered solution for auricular reconstruction in microtia patients has reached clinical translation. The key challenge lies in generating functional elastic cartilage ex vivo. Here, we integrate synergistic cell‐biomaterial strategies to engineer auricular grafts with mechanical and histological ...

Atomic‐Level Ionic Displacement Polarization Enhanced Piezocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in Covalent Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two isomorphic COFs were synthesized and compared, including an amphoteric COF (SQ‐TAPT) and a neutral COF (PDA‐TAPT). The ionic bonds in SQ‐TAPT introduce more Born effective charges, thereby enhancing its ionic displacement polarization. Experimental and theoretical calculations demonstrated that SQ‐TAPT exhibited higher polarity and stronger ...
