Air–water flows down stepped chutes: turbulence and flow structure observations [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Multiphase Flow, 2002
Interactions between turbulent waters and atmosphere may lead to strong air-water mixing. This experimental study is focused on the flow down a staircase channel characterised by very strong flow aeration and turbulence. Interfacial aeration is characterised by strong air-water mixing extending down to the invert.

Air-water interface area in self-aerated flows [PDF]

open access: yesWater Research, 1994
In high velocity open channel flows, air is entrained at the free surface. This process is called self-aeration. In air-water flows the presence of air bubbles within the flow increases substantially the amount of air-water interface area and enhances the air-water transfer of atmospheric gases (e.g. nitrogen and oxygen).

MOVEMENT OF TWO-PHASE GAS-LIQUID FLOW IN HORIZONTAL AND INCLINED PIPES [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Petroleum & Gas Technology, 2023
Two-phase flows are found in almost all areas of technology. For example, tubular evaporators, boiling water reactors, boiler blowdown systems, heaters, boilers, gas lift pumps, oil and geothermal wells, oil and gas pipelines, refrigerators, process ...

2D Modelling and energy analysis of entrapped air-pocket propagation and spring-like geysering in the drainage pipeline system

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2023
Transient (highly unsteady) air–water two-phase flows and spring-like geysers have been one of the critical concerns in drainage pipeline systems, which may cause or exacerbate drainage flooding problems and associated damage consequences. In this paper,

Remote Sensing of Aerated Flows at Large Dams: Proof of Concept

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
Dams are important for flood mitigation, water supply, and hydroelectricity. Every dam has a water conveyance structure, such as a spillway, to safely release extreme floods when needed. The flows down spillways are often self-aerated and spillway design

14C in cropland soil of a long-term field trial – experimental variability and implications for estimating carbon turnover [PDF]

open access: yesSOIL, 2015
Because of their controlled nature, the presence of independent replicates, and their known management history, long-term field experiments are key to the understanding of factors controlling soil carbon.

Free surface aeration and development dependence in chute flows

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The microscopic description of the mixture behaviour of air–water flow remains a challenge. It is not clear how to represent a complex two-phase interaction with the turbulent air–water structure development process. In this study, based on the air–water

Theoretical study of a double-slope solar still with solar air heater condenser

open access: yesInternational Journal of Renewable Energy Development, 2023
Despite their limited water production and efficiency, double-slope solar stills are an appropriate solution for water scarcity in hot arid regions. Numerous studies have focused on enhancing the effectiveness of double-slope solar stills.

Experimental study on dam outlet works using a link-sleeve valve with air aspiration

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2022
In recent years, the importance of hydraulic power generation has further increased because of the movement toward decarbonization and the need to control floods in Japan. For this reason, demand for dam discharge valves has been increasing.

Features of the thermal regime formation in the downcast shafts in the cold period of the year

open access: yesЗаписки Горного института, 2021
In the cold period of the year, to ensure the required thermal regime in underground mine workings, the air supplied to the mine is heated using air handling systems.
