Air-water flows in circular drop manholes
Urban Water Journal, 2014Drop manholes, a typical element of urban drainage networks in steep catchments and in reaches of supercritical flow, enhance air entrainment and entrapment. The air flow across drop shafts can be remarkably high. This paper discusses the air transport phenomena and the effects of ventilation absence in drop manholes.

Air-Water Flow in Coarse Granular Media
Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1978Air may be entrained in the flow in porous shore structure under wave action. Three conceptual models for two-phase flow in ducts have been adapted to describe flow in coarse granular media. These are the homogeneous, bubbly drift-flux, and slug drift-flux models.

LDA measurement in air–water downward flow
Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 2004Abstract Local characteristics of the liquid phase in air–water downward flow were investigated in a 50.8 mm inner-diameter round pipe. A laser Doppler anemometry (LDA) system was used to measure axial liquid velocity and its fluctuations. To reduce the measurement uncertainty, the experiments were performed in flow conditions with low void fraction.

Air-water bubbly flow in free-shear layers [PDF]
Air-water bubbly flows are encountered in many engineering applications ranging from chemical engineering to mechanical engineering applications (e.g. WOOD 1991, CHANSON 1995). In some cases, free-surface aeration is maximised (e.g. for re-oxygenation). In others, it must be minimised or prevented (e.g.

Formation of an air‐water two‐phase flow
AIChE Journal, 1977AbstractThe geometrical parameters of injection devices are shown to have almost no effect on the resulting two‐phase flow, while they influence the pressure drop owing to its formation. The predominant hydrodynamic parameter is the ratio of the mean superficial velocities. A simplified analysis leads to good agreement with experimental results.

The horizontal pipeline flow of air‐water mixtures
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1962AbstractA review and comparison of the various methods which have been proposed for the correlation of the pressure drop attending the flow of gas‐liquid mixtures is made. The friction factor and other terms employed in the correlations are related mathematically. The horizontal flow of air‐water mixtures has been investigated in a 41 ft.

Air-Water Flow Structures at an Abrupt Drop with Supercritical Flow
1998In storm waterways, at reservoir outlets and in water treatment plants, it is common to design drops, stepped waterways and cascades because of their energy dissipation and flow aeration characteristics. At an abrupt drop, the supercritical flow is characterised by a free-falling nappe impacting on the downstream invert (fig. 1).
