Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

Investigation of the Temperature Field Distribution in an EI Type Iron-Cored Coil Using 3D FEM Modeling at Different Load Conditions

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
In this present paper, results for the temperature distribution in electromagnetic construction in the form of coil coupled with EI-type ferromagnetic core are presented. This construction is typical for small electric transformers (AC operation mode) or

An Air Bearing Rotating Coil Magnetic Measurement System [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2005 Particle Accelerator Conference, 2006
This paper describes a rotating coil magnetic measurement system supported on air bearings. The design is optimized for measurements of 0.1micron magnetic centerline changes on long, small aperture quadrupoles. Graphite impregnated epoxy resin is used for the coil holder and coil winding forms.

A nonlinearity in permanent-magnet systems used in watt balances

open access: yes, 2014
Watt balances are used to measure the Planck constant and will be used in the future to realize mass at the kilogram level. They increasingly rely on permanent magnet systems to generate the magnetic flux.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Effectiveness - NTU data and analysis for air conditioning and refrigeration air coils [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering, 2010
A simulation program based on a control volume analysis has been used in the evaluation of the (e, NTU) relationship for coils of complex geometry and flow arrangement. The simulation program has been evaluated through simple geometry and flow arrangement coils.

Analysis of the thermal performance of heat exchangers for active chilled beam units [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Coils used in active chilled beams (ACB) have some distinctive features compared to conventional coils used in fan-coil units. On the air side, the flow rate of induced air is limited and air velocities are thus much lower than those prevailing in fan ...

Understanding the Effect of Resistance Temperature Detector Temperature Controllers on Microstructural Alignment in Magnetic Freeze Casting

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The effect of temperature controllers that are commonly used in freeze‐casting is investigated in this work. Temperature controllers are observed to generate a voltage in the slurry. Microstructural alignment and ultimate compressive strength data show this voltage to interfere with the ability to align the microstructure using magnetic fields ...
