Evolution of sea fog based on meteorological and oceanographic observations during FATIMA Yellow Sea campaign

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This study presents a conceptual framework linking sea‐water temperature Tw gradients to the formation and persistence of sea fog in the southeastern Yellow Sea. Over cold waters maintained by tidal mixing, downward latent heat flux enhances lower‐level stability and sustains persistent sea fog, whereas over warmer waters, upward fluxes and thermal ...

Stratospheric influence on tropical cyclone evolution

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
We developed a metric based on moist static energy to detect and quantify the intrusion of stratospheric air into the inner core of tropical cyclones. High‐resolution numerical simulations show that this stratospheric interaction forms warm anomalies (high‐level warm cores) in the upper troposphere.

Coupled diabatic and frictional forcing of single‐layer vortical flow

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
A single‐layer balanced model is used to illustrate how diabatic and frictional forcing of a primary balanced vortical flow can be coupled self‐consistently, including the advection of potential vorticity by the induced transverse circulation. The coupling is illustrated in the context of a developing tropical cyclone, in which boundary‐layer dynamics ...

Numerical Study on Wake Wave Characteristics Around a Transom Stern Vessel

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The wake characteristics behind a transom stern vessel play a crucial role in determining its hydrodynamic performance, resistance, and environmental impact.

River Ice Processes Modelling: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT River ice strongly influences hydrology, hydrodynamics, and ecosystems in cold regions, with an impact on flooding, hydropower generation, navigation, and aquatic habitats. Modeling river ice processes is therefore essential for both scientific understanding and operational management.

Revealing Airflow–Particle Dynamics in Dry Powder Inhalers

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
An integrated framework combining device and formulation characterization, CFD–DEM simulations, and interpretable machine learning is established. This framework reveals how airflow and particle interactions govern powder dispersion across prevailing dry powder inhalers.
