Numerical study on periodic pressure fluctuations driven by air–water interactions in a dropshaft-tunnel system

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics
Air–water interactions in deep tunnel systems can cause safety risks. However, the multiphase flow dynamics under continuous air entrainment from upstream and release from downstream, which are the typical case in engineering practice, remain ...

A Numerical Investigation of the Effects of Piston Bowl Geometry and Spray Angle on Combustion, Performance and Emission of a Diesel Engine

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A piston bowl's design and spray angle improve air‐fuel mixing, resulting in more complete combustion and higher efficiency. Ansys Forte 2023 R1 a CFD software was used to analyze the effects of five combustion chamber geometries of cylinder, modified re‐entrant, re‐entrant, double‐stepped, and stepped on engine performance, combustion, and emission ...

Hydrogen‐Enriched Tri‐Fuel Combustion for Low‐Carbon Engines at Medium Engine Load: A Comprehensive CFD Analysis

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
CFD analysis of a diesel–CH4–H2 tri‐fuel engine shows that increasing hydrogen energy share (HES) enhances mixing and accelerates combustion, improving pressure, efficiency, and reducing CO and soot. At 60% HES, ISFC improves 26.2%, soot drops 95%, while NOx increases due to higher temperatures. ABSTRACT The global commitment to achieve net‐zero carbon

Forced Draught Impact on Externally Venting Flames: An Experimental and Numerical Investigation

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wind can significantly influence fire development and spread in urban and forest environments causing fatal consequences for the public, the first responders, and the environment. Wind‐driven fires can have a significant impact on structural fires as wind can increase the fire's intensity, development, and flame spread.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of Cedar Façade Flame Spread With Respect to Sidewall

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In response to growing energy conservation and carbon neutrality efforts, façade systems incorporating wooden materials have attracted increasing attention, which in turn raises concerns about their combustibility. This study presents a combined experimental and numerical investigation of flame spread along cedar façades.

Effect of AEA-SP Dosage Sequence on Air Entrainment in FA Concrete

open access: yesNordic Concrete Research, 2019
Laboratory measurements show that varying the dosage sequence of air-entraining agent and co-polymer in the mix (SP added before, after or together with AEA) greatly affects air entrainment in fresh and hardened fly ash concrete.

INVESTIGATION ON EFFECTS OF ENLARGED PIPE RUPTURE SIZE AND AIR PENETRATION TIMING IN REAL-SCALE EXPERIMENT OF SIPHON BREAKER

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2014
To ensure the safety of research reactors, the water level must be maintained above the required height. When a pipe ruptures, the siphon phenomenon causes continuous loss of coolant until the hydraulic head is removed.
