ABSTRACT Excess lung cancer risk in Xuanwei and Fuyuan, China, has been attributed to household air pollution from use of a locally sourced smoky (bituminous) coal. However, the carcinogenic mechanisms remain unclear. Given the important role of inflammation in lung cancer development, this study compared the proinflammatory potentials of the ...

ABSTRACT Sargassum inundation of Caribbean and American shorelines is a growing environmental hazard. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ammonia (NH3) produced by decomposing Sargassum could be involved in airway obstruction and bronchial inflammation. The study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of exposure to H2S and NH3 gases emitted during Sargassum ...

[Respiratory findings in workers with no occupational exposure to air pollutants in the workplace].
The prevalence of acute and chronic respiratory symptoms and diseases as well as ventilatory capacity were studied in 806 workers without occupational exposure to air pollutants. The established prevalence of chronic respiratory symptoms was similar to that found in the general pollution. It was also higher in smokers than in non-smokers.
