Development and Validation of the ClimHealth‐K: A Scale for Assessing Perceived Knowledge and Awareness of Climate Change‐Related Health Effects

open access: yesNursing &Health Sciences, Volume 28, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Climate change poses a significant threat to human health and is linked to various direct and indirect outcomes, including infectious diseases, heat‐related illnesses, and other climate‐sensitive conditions. However, standardized tools assessing perceived knowledge and awareness of climate‐related health effects remain limited.

Association between proximity to a lead‐releasing facility and cognition in diverse cohorts

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND The associations between adult lead exposure and late‐life cognition are largely unknown. METHODS In two cohorts, Kaiser Healthy Aging and Diverse Life Experiences (KHANDLE, n = 1638) and Study of Healthy Aging in African Americans (STAR, n = 741), we assessed residential proximity to lead‐releasing facilities for association with ...

Chemical Characterization of Toxic Elements in Plastic Utensils: Key Insights and Health Impacts

open access: yesCLEAN – Soil, Air, Water, Volume 54, Issue 5, May 2026.
Toxic elements in plastic utensils are assessed using portable X‐ray fluorescence and specific migration tests with water and 3% acetic acid as food simulants. Cadmium, lead, arsenic, and mercury are detected in the utensils, and migration results show exceedances of specific migration limits, particularly for lead, mercury, and cadmium. These findings

Luteolin Protects Against Noise‐Induced Hearing Loss via Mitigating Oxidative Stress and Apoptosis, With Potential Regulation of the EGR1/SPRY4 Axis

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 5, May 2026.
Luteolin attenuates noise‐induced auditory hair cell loss, as well as TBHP‐induced oxidative stress and apoptosis. EGR1 modulates the transcription of SPRY4; the expression levels of both factors are upregulated following TBHP exposure, and this inductive effect is abrogated by luteolin treatment.

Immortalization of Human Adult Alveolar Epithelial Cells to Study Environmental Exposures of the Distal Lung

open access: yesCurrent Protocols, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Alveolar epithelial cell type 1 (AT1) and type 2 (AT2) cells make up the saccular gas exchange units of the lung, called alveoli. Formation of alveoli during lung development accounts for the expansive surface area of the lung, allowing for proper respiration and delivery of oxygen to the body.
