Are passive smoking, air pollution and obesity a greater mortality risk than major radiation incidents? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background Following a nuclear incident, the communication and perception of radiation risk becomes a (perhaps the) major public health issue. In response to such incidents it is therefore crucial to communicate radiation health risks in the context of ...

Computational fluid dynamics numerical simulation of the effect of cooling towers on the diffusion of airborne radionuclides

open access: yesFushe yanjiu yu fushe gongyi xuebao
During the normal operation of cooling towers in nuclear power plants, water vapor with a certain temperature is discharged through the outlet of the cooling tower, which mixes with the surrounding air. A portion of this vapor condenses and forms visible

Recent Advances in the Fabrication of Structural Nanocellulose‐Loaded Functionalized Biochar‐Based Biopolymeric Nanocomposites for Industrial Wastewater Treatment by Continuous Adsorption With Modeling: A Cutting‐Edge Review

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study focused on the advanced fabrication and application of agro‐waste biomass/natural lignocellulosic fiber‐derived structural CNC‐FBC‐based multifunctional biopolymeric nanoadsorbents in industrial wastewater treatment technology. These CNC‐FBC‐based biopolymeric nanosorbents would be a sustainable alternative to fossil‐based, hazardous ones ...

Metal‐Free Submicron‐Hollow‐Fiber Conjugated Polymer Sponges for Efficient Pollutant Removal and Thermal Insulation

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 24, 27 April 2026.
Mimicking natural tubular structures, metal‐free conjugated hollow fibers are synthesized via one‐pot Chichibabin condensation. Pyridinic networks spontaneously self‐assemble into submicron hollow fibers and entangle into spongy monoliths—without templates, metals, or post‐processing.

A Multi Tracer Approach Reveals Groundwater Residence Times and Dynamic Endmember Mixing in the Subterranean Estuary of a High Energy Beach

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Subterranean estuaries (STEs) under high‐energy conditions function as effective biogeochemical reactors, where waterbodies of varying physico‐chemical properties mix. Chemical reactions within the STE modulate the solute composition of groundwater discharging to the sea providing for example nutrients for plankton growth to coastal ecosystems.

Paths of Air Pollutants Containing Radioactive Nuclides in the Suburban Area of Thessaloniki, Northern Greece

open access: yesAerosol and Air Quality Research, 2010
The atmospheric behavior of 7 Be-aerosols in association with atmospheric pollutants was studied by using 1-ACFM Andersen type cascade impactors. The activity of 7 Be, a radionuclide of cosmogenic origin, determined by gamma-ray spectrometry (Eγ = 0.477 MeV), was largely associated with submicron aerosol particles in the accumulation mode (0.4– 2.0 μm).
