Controlling Ozone and Fine Particulates: Cost Benefit Analysis with Meteorological Variability [PDF]
In this paper, we develop an integrated cost-benefit analysis framework for ozone and fine particulate control, accounting for variability and uncertainty.

High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Comparison of motorcycle taxi driver's respiratory health using an air quality standard for carbon monoxide in ambient air: a pilot survey in Benin. [PDF]
IntroductionAmbient air quality standards are not designed to protect people occupationally exposed to outdoor air pollution on a routine basis. This study aimed to assess the effect of exceeding the US ambient air quality standard for carbon monoxide ...

High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Relation of emissions to air quality for photochemical smog [PDF]
Effective evaluation of air pollution control strategies requires the use of validated and reliable mathemtical models that can relate pollutant emissions to atmospheric air quality. The primary objective of this research program has been to develop a

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...
