Selection Strategies for Flexible Pressure Sensor Electrode Materials Toward Ultrafast Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reveals, for the first time, how the electrode–organic interface governs the temporal performance of flexible pressure sensors. By pairing high‐conductivity CVD PEDOT with commonly used metal electrodes, the authors demonstrate that interfacial energy alignment dictates microsecond‐scale response, providing a straightforward design strategy ...

Controlled Movement of Soft Actuators using Multi‐Responsive Microgel Arrays and Microcirculatory Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale hydrogels (microgels) feature improved mass transport characteristics supportive of fast actuation and chemical tunability amenable to programmed stimuli response. A unique soft actuator architecture is realized by encapsulating microgels in soft microcirculatory systems which enable the convenient delivery of liquid stimuli for powering and

From In‐Silico Optimized Microfabrication to Experimental Validation: Engineering a Tridimensional Epi‐Intraneural Interface

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An epi‐intraneural interface is developed through in silico optimization and a novel tridimensional microfabrication pipeline. The device integrates penetrating and epineural contacts on a flexible substrate. Mechanical, electrochemical, and in vivo testing in rat and pig reveal robust implantation, low‐threshold activation, and site‐dependent ...

Novel defrost techniques on air source heat pumps

open access: yes, 2016
This study aimed to reach a new solution for the defrost problem for air source heat pumps. In order to achieve this goal, the study was divided in 3 different parts. A literature survey about what the industry and the academy are utilizing now; a benchmark study with products that fit in a specific range of characteristics and then select and try one ...

Single‐Crystalline Lateral p‐SnS/n‐SnSe van der Waals Heterostructures by Vapor Transport Growth with In Situ Bi Doping

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In‐situ doping during growth of SnSe and subsequent attachment of SnS produces high‐quality lateral pn‐heterojunctions between van der Waals semiconductors. Electron beam induced current measurements demonstrate electrically active pn‐junctions, paving the way for devices that harness charge separation at lateral interfaces in layered heterostructures.

Learning Agent for a Heat-Pump Thermostat With a Set-Back Strategy Using Model-Free Reinforcement Learning

open access: yes, 2015
The conventional control paradigm for a heat pump with a less efficient auxiliary heating element is to keep its temperature set point constant during the day.

Chiral Nanohoops as an Efficient Spin Polarization System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral conjugated nanohoops with a central dibenzopentalene unit exhibit 90% spin polarization at low voltage and high conductivity. These properties make them ideal components in molecular spintronics applications. Abstract A central challenge in molecular spintronics is to achieve a high spin polarization at low operating voltages and ambient ...
