Strategic Flow Management for Air Traffic Control
Operations Research, 1993One of the most important functions of air traffic management systems is the assignment of ground-holding times to flights, i.e., the determination of whether and by how much the take-off of a particular aircraft headed for a congested part of the ATC system should be postponed to reduce the likelihood and extent of airborne delays.

Several studies and demonstrations described in this report show the potential for existing satellite technology to support future ATM needs using a reasonable level of satellite communications resources. A prototype system tested by NASA performed well and demonstrated the feasibility of a wideband satellite link approach.

Supporting resilience in air traffic management
Proceedings of the 2008 RISE/EFTS Joint International Workshop on Software Engineering for Resilient Systems, 2008This paper reports about the empirical validation of a tool for decision support in the conext of Air Traffic Management (ATM). The empirical validation highlights how resilience emerges in complex socio-technical settings.

Resource Management in the Air Traffic Domain
2011Nowadays, with the increasing need of traveling and flying, the air traffic system is highly capacity constrained due to the limited availability of resources. These resources are shared among the various domain actors. In this paper, we propose an architectural perspective for resource management in the aeronautic domain, which is based on resource ...

Learning Methods for Air Traffic Management
2005Weather is an important source of delay for aircraft. Recent studies have shown that certain weather factors have significant influence on air traffic. More than 50% of all delay accounts to weather and causes among others high costs to airlines and passengers.

Traffic Management for Urban Air Mobility
2019Urban air mobility (UAM) refers to on-demand air transportation services within an urban area. We seek to perform mission planning for vehicles in a UAM fleet, while guaranteeing system safety requirements such as traffic separation. In this paper, we present a localized hierarchical planning procedure for the traffic management problem of a fleet of ...
