Multimodal Locomotion in Insect‐Inspired Microrobots: A Review of Strategies for Aerial, Surface, Aquatic, and Interfacial Motion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review identifies key design considerations for insect‐inspired microrobots capable of multimodal locomotion. To draw inspiration, biological and robotic strategies for moving in air, on water surfaces, and underwater are examined, along with approaches for crossing the air–water interface.

A Monitor for Airborne Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Microbiology, 1962
A unique agar drum sampler is described which indicates, continuously, the number of viable, bacterial particles per unit volume of air at the time and point of sampling. By selection of the timer and the sampling rate the sampler is suitable for quite a wide range of concentration and time. An impaction line of 484 in.

Asymmetry in Skipping Enhances Viability Against Control Input Noise

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Quadruped animals use asymmetric galloping gaits at high speeds, yet the functional role of this asymmetry remains unclear. This study shows that left–right asymmetry in touchdown angles enhances robustness to control noise. Using a simple two‐legged locomotion model and viability theory, it demonstrates that asymmetric skipping substantially enlarges ...

Machine Learning for Green Solvents: Assessment, Selection and Substitution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Environmental regulations have intensified demand for green solvents, but discovery is limited by Solvent Selection Guides (SSGs) that quantify solvent sustainability. Training a machine learning model on GlaxoSmithKline SSG, a database of sustainability metrics for 10,189 solvents, GreenSolventDB is developed. Integrated with Hansen solubility metrics,

RetinaNet-XAG: Multicategory SAR Target Detection Under Sample Imbalance With Oriented Bounding Boxes

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Fine-grained classification of multicategory vehicles and ships in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery and accurate orientation estimation remains challenging. This is mainly due to the imbalance among different classes, the lack of hard examples, and

The impacts of climate change and meteorological factors on pollen season indicators of allergenic plant taxa

open access: yesیافته‌های نوین در علوم زیستی, 2022
Pollen respiratory allergies have been increasing in prevalence over the last two decades, partly as the result of the impact of climate change. For many allergenic trees, grass and weed species, increased pollen production and prolonged pollination ...

SERS Facemask for Rapid and Portable Sensing Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Antigens for TB Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study introduced an Au─Ag embedded covalent organic framework (U@COF) ‐mediated facemask for sensing TB antigen ESAT‐6/CFP‐10 complex in clinical droplet samples toward TB screening. Practical analysis of clinical samples demonstrated the availability of our facemask, which is capable of identifying the TB subjects (N = 17) from healthy candidates (

Analytical Computation of the Spatial Resolution in GNSS-R and Experimental Validation at L1 and L5

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Global navigation satellite systems reflectometry (GNSS-R) is a relatively novel remote sensing technique, but it can be understood as a multi-static radar using satellite navigation signals as signals of opportunity.
