Airborne fungal spores were measured in 44 office buildings in the summer and winter throughout the continental United States, as part of the Building Assessment, Survey and Evaluation (BASE) program. Six indoor air and two outdoor air samples were collected on a single day from each building.

Airborne fungal spores and the thunderstorm of 24 June 1994

On the evening of 24 June 1994 there were thunderstorms which passed from the south to the north over large areas of England, followed by an extensive and initially alarming episode of 'thunderstorm asthma'. It was eventually concluded that the probable cause of this episode was the release of allergenic particles from wetted grass pollen.
