Airborne Radar

2021
Ground-based radar systems have been used to observe clouds and precipitation since the 1940s. While weather radars that use centimeter waves can observe precipitation several hundred kilometers away, radars that are dedicated to cloud observations use millimeter waves and have limited ranges of just a few tens of kilometers.

Target search with a radar on an airborne platform

2023 26th International Conference on Information Fusion (FUSION), 2023
This paper addresses the problem of a moving target search with a discrete allocation of search effort to disjoint cones of observation. A cone covers several regions with different visibilities. This is an important step towards the optimal search with radars on airborne platforms which has not been previously studied.

Advanced radar modes for airborne surveillance radars

2015 16th International Radar Symposium (IRS), 2015
The pod integrated variant of the airborne SmartRadar by AIRBUS Defence & Space, mounted under the wing of a Learjet 35 aircraft, is used as a testbed to develop advanced radar modes. The SmartRadar comprises a multi-phase-centre active electronically steered array (AESA) antenna, a flexible, wide-bandwidth radar core, and an on-board processing unit ...
