Ground vibrations and airborne sounds generated by motion of rock in a river bed [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2008
This study investigates how ground vibrations (underground sounds) and airborne sounds that are produced by rocks in a river bed differ from each other. Airborne and underground sounds were simultaneously received at three microphones and three geophones,

An annoyance-related SNQ for the assessment of airborne sound insulation for urban-type sounds.

open access: yesApplied Acoustics, 2020
The sound insulation provided by a certain construction element is usually presented through Single-Number Quantities (SNQs). These SNQs are global values used to summarize the sound insulation that a construction element has as function of the frequency.

Volatile Compounds in Feathers of the Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) Reflect Sex and Pair‐Bond Status

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Scarlet macaws exhibit sex‐ and pair‐related differences in plumage volatile composition, with males showing greater chemical richness. Partnered individuals differ in specific compound classes, whereas no clear association with immune function was detected. These results support a potential role for olfactory cues in sexual and social communication in

Influence of rubbing during etching on surface roughness and interfacial characteristics of intact enamel

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Rubbing phosphoric acid during etching has been shown to improve surface roughness in prepared enamel. This study aimed to compare intact enamel's surface roughness and resin tag lengths after etching with and without rubbing. Extracted sound third molars were used for testing, mesially for conventional and distally for dynamic (rubbing ...

Airborne sound insulation improvement on masonry partitions using additional plasterboard layers

open access: yesEngineering Structures and Technologies, 2011
For the purposes of accumulating knowledge of how to comply with requirements for new buildings of obligatory sound class C or enhanced acoustic comfort sound classes A and B (Lithuanian Building Technical regulations STR 2.01.07:2003), the article ...

Influence of loudspeaker directivity on the measurement uncertainty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
One of the most significant aspects of a building’s acoustic behavior is the airborne sound insulation of the room façades, since this determines the protection of its inhabitants against environmental noise.

A New Approach to Transforming Airborne Electromagnetic Data into Models of Sediment Type

open access: yesGroundwater, EarlyView.
A new methodology provides the relationship needed to transform electrical resistivity measurements from airborne electromagnetic surveys to sediment type. By accounting for the physics of the measurement and the quality of the driller's logs used in developing the transform, the method improves the accuracy of derived sediment type models.
