Automated extraction of right whale morphometric data from drone aerial photographs
Aerial photogrammetry is a popular non‐invasive method for measuring marine mammal body size, body morphometrics, and body condition, but processing large datasets efficiently remains challenging. We developed a machine learning algorithm using Mask R‐CNN models to automatically measure body morphometrics of southern right whales from aerial ...

Functional feeding groups (FFGs) are key components sustaining ecosystem functioning in riverine ecosystems. In this study, we conducted an airborne imaging spectroscopy campaign and a systematic environmental DNA (eDNA) river water sampling in a 740‐km2 mountainous catchment, combined with light detection and ranging (LiDAR) point clouds, to obtain ...

Night lights from space: potential of SDGSAT‐1 for ecological applications
Our study emphasizes the importance of advancing ALAN monitoring from space for ecology and conservation, and it highlights the novel opportunities of SDGSAT‐1. We discuss shortcomings that need to be resolved and identify promising avenues for sound ecological impact assessments of ALAN on ecosystems using space‐borne remote sensing.

Hyperspectral imaging has a limited ability to remotely sense the onset of beech bark disease
Although hyperspectral imaging is a powerful remote sensing tool, it proved ineffective in predicting the progression of beech bark disease, except in its later stages, both at the canopy and leaf levels. While some alterations in chlorophyll, water content, and canopy structure may have influenced foliar reflectance at the canopy scale, as suggested ...
