Controlling Dynamical Systems Into Unseen Target States Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Parameter‐aware next‐generation reservoir computing enables efficient, data‐driven control of dynamical systems across unseen target states and nonstationary transitions. The approach suppresses transient behavior while navigating system collapse scenarios with minimal training data—over an order of magnitude less than traditional methods.

Functional models from limited data: A parametric and multimodal approach to anatomy and 3D kinematics of feeding in basking sharks (Cetorhinus maximus)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Basking sharks, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus, Brugden [Squalus maximus], Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter, 1765, vol. 3, pp. 33–49), feed by gaping their mouths and gill slits, greatly reorienting their cranial skeletons to filter food from water.

Night time aircraft noise exposure and children′s cognitive performance

open access: yesNoise and Health, 2010
Chronic aircraft noise exposure in children is associated with impairment of reading and long-term memory. Most studies have not differentiated between day or nighttime noise exposure.

Automated Feature Extraction and Classification of Submerged Cultural Heritage Assets in the Puck Lagoon via Multisensor Remote Sensing

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents a strong framework for the detection and classification of Submerged Cultural Heritage Assets (SCHA) in shallow marine environments using the integration of multibeam echosounder and airborne LiDAR bathymetry with object‐based image analysis and fuzzy logic–based classification.

Aircraft Turbofan Noise [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 5: Ceramics; Structures and Dynamics; Controls, Diagnostics and Instrumentation; Education; Process Industries, 1983
Recent advances in the understanding of turbofan noise generation and suppression in aircraft engines are reviewed with particular emphasis on NASA research. The review addresses each link in the chain of physical processes which connect unsteady flow interactions with fan blades to far field noise.

The spread of non‐native species

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The global redistribution of species through human agency is one of the defining ecological signatures of the Anthropocene, with biological invasions reshaping biodiversity patterns, ecosystem processes and services, and species interactions globally.

Circular Economy Pathways for Airport Climate Change Mitigation

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Airport operators face growing climate‐change pressures; the circular economy offers pathways to reduce impacts and recover resources. We examine how airport operators apply the circular economy in practice. We use an exploratory qualitative multicase design based on practitioner‐generated documents (e.g., press releases and sustainability ...

Aircraft noise control [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1995
The purpose of this paper is to describe the research program in aircraft acoustics being conducted by the NASA–Langley Research Center. The program includes research to understand, predict, and reduce the sources of aircraft noise; to quantify the transmission of noise through the atmosphere and/or aircraft structures; and to define the effects of ...
