Analysis of a VTOL hover task with predictor displays using an optimal control model of the human operator [PDF]
The influence of different types of predictor displays in a longitudinal VTOL hover task is analyzed in a theoretical study. It was assumed that pitch angle and position are presented to the pilot in separate displays namely the artificial horizon and ...

Ultrafine aerosol particles in aircraft plumes: In situ observations
Measurements of ultrafine particles in the near field of the DLR research aircraft ATTAS using low (0.02 g/kg fuel) and high (2.7g/kg) fuel sulfur contents (FSCs) are presented. Soot emissions of ∼ 1015/kg show no significant dependence on FSC. Strong evidence is found that ∼ 1/3 of the soot particles must be involved in ice nucleation in contrails, in

Deep Reinforcement Learning Approaches for Sensor Data Collection by a Swarm of UAVs
This article presents four decentralized reinforcement learning algorithms for autonomous data harvesting and investigates how collaboration improves collection efficiency. It also presents strategies to minimize training times by improving model flexibility, enabling algorithms to operate with varying number of agents and sensors.

Observations of Aircraft Dissipation Trails from GOES
Two cases of distrails (aircraft dissipation trails) with associated fall streak clouds were analyzed using multispectral geostationary satellite data. One distrail was observed on 23 July 2000 in a single cloud layer over southeastern Virginia and the Chesapeake Bay. Another set of trails developed on 6 January 2000 at the top of multilayer clouds off

Controlling Dynamical Systems Into Unseen Target States Using Machine Learning
Parameter‐aware next‐generation reservoir computing enables efficient, data‐driven control of dynamical systems across unseen target states and nonstationary transitions. The approach suppresses transient behavior while navigating system collapse scenarios with minimal training data—over an order of magnitude less than traditional methods.

ABSTRACT Introduction Use of aqueous film‐forming foam (AFFF) is a source of exposure to per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) for firefighters working in aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) settings. However, data characterizing the association between serum PFAS concentrations and exposure risk factors for ARFF firefighters are limited ...

Abstract Basking sharks, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus, Brugden [Squalus maximus], Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter, 1765, vol. 3, pp. 33–49), feed by gaping their mouths and gill slits, greatly reorienting their cranial skeletons to filter food from water.
