Design of airfoils and cascades of airfoils
AIAA Journal, 1989This paper presents a method for generating blade shapes to be used as inputs to the direct- or inverse-bladedesign sequences. This method can generate subsonic or supersonic blades for compressors and turbines, or isolated airfoils, but the discussion in this paper is limited to subsonic-exit turbine blade rows. Gas-turbine blades are usually designed

A multipoint inverse airfoil design method for slot-suction airfoils
13th Applied Aerodynamics Conference, 1995Owing to a renewed interest in advanced-concept transport aircraft with active boundary-layer control (suction and/or blowing), a generalized multipoint method for the inverse design of airfoils with slot suction in incompressible potential flow is presented. The results predicted by theory show good agreement with experiment.

Icing Research for Airfoil and Multi-Element Airfoil
24th AIAA Applied Aerodynamics Conference, 2006*† ‡ Ice accretions over critical aerodynamics surface cause significant degradation in aircraft performance and handling qualities. In this paper, ice accretion on the leading edge of the NACA 0012 airfoil is predicted using CFD method. A four -order Runge -Kutta method is used to solve the droplet trajectory equation.

Aerodynamics and acoustics of transonic airfoil-airfoil interaction
3rd AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference, 1997As a two dimensional approximation to the outer region of a coaxial rotor, the How Gelds induced by transonic airfoil-airfoil interaction (AAI) are numerically simulated to investigate the aerodynamic and acoustic characteristics. A new approach is suggested to minimize the numerical compression wave generated when imposing initial condition for ...

Supercritical airfoil flowfield measurements
8th Fluid and PlasmaDynamics Conference, 1975Detailed measurements in the transonic flow field about a Whitcomb-type supercritical airfoil profile are presented including surface pressure distributions, far wake surveys, spark schlieren photographs, and a series of vector velocity profiles in the boundary layer and in the near wake.

This paper investigates the effect of airfoil thickness on the hydrodynamic near-field and radiated acoustic far-field of two cambered airfoils, namely the NACA 16-506 and NACA 16-616 profiles. Each airfoil has been experimentally investigated over a range of angles of attack encompassing the pre-stall, stall, and post-stall flow regimes, with static ...
