Optimal design and analysis of airfoil radiator fins based on weakly compressible turbulence

Numerical Heat Transfer, Part A: Applications, 2021
In order to further improve the heat dissipation performance of forced air-cooled radiator in the simplest and most efficient way, this paper firstly proposes an airfoil optimization of the radiator fin structure. Then, based on the weakly compressible turbulence theory, a multi-physics coupling finite element model (FEM) is constructed to restore ...

Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Rectangular Cooling Channel With Airfoil Shaped Fins

Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Applications, 2021
Abstract This paper experimentally investigates heat transfer in a cooling passage with airfoil shaped fins for channel Reynolds numbers 10,000–40,000. This study uses airfoil shaped fins, instead of circular or oblong-shaped pins, for heat transfer augmentation.

Comprehensive performance comparison of airfoil fin PCHEs with NACA 00XX series airfoil

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 2017
Abstract Printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) can be used in supercritical carbon dioxide (S-CO 2 ) Brayton cycle. The present study compares NACA 0020 airfoil fin PCHE with conventional zigzag PCHE by numerical analysis. Pressure drop of the former has a striking reduction while maintaining excellent heat transfer performance.

Post-Stall Flow Control Using a Flexible Fin on Airfoil

47th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including The New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2009
This paper explores a new concept of post-stall flow control for airfoils by using a thin flexible fin attached on the upper surface of an airfoil to passively manipulate flow structures in fully separated flows for drag reduction and oscillation/flutter suppression.

Optimization of fin arrangement and channel configuration in an airfoil fin PCHE for supercritical CO2 cycle

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2014
Abstract As a new type of discontinuous fin, airfoil fin (AFF) can bring a better thermal-hydraulic performance than Zigzag fin and S-shaped fin when applied to PCHE using supercritical CO 2 as a working fluid. In this study, the effects of AFF arrangements on heat transfer and flow resistance are investigated.

Experimental and numerical investigations of thermal-hydraulic characteristics in a novel airfoil fin heat exchanger

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2021
Abstract A novel airfoil fin (AFF) Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger (PCHE) with a 100 kW class heat transfer capacity was experimentally tested as a cooler in a supercritical CO2 system. Numerical analysis was also conducted to have an insight into the flow and heat transfer mechanism in the AFF channels. The results showed that the novel AFF structure

Innovative Design of Heat Exchanger using Airfoil Fins for Concentrated Solar Power Plants

2019 Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET), 2019
Simulation study is done using ANSYS fluent software to test the temperature of a proposed design of a heat exchanger that will be used in solar power plant. Different variables were selected such as the fluid type and fluid velocity. For instance, two type of fluids were implemented for this system, water and molten salt at different velocity values ...

Effect of Rectangular and Airfoil Planar Member Cross-section on Cascade Fin Aerodynamics

2018 AIAA Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, 2018
Grid fins are unconventional control and lifting surfaces consisting of an outer frame supporting an inner grid of small chord intersecting planar surfaces. These have been credited for their enhanced lifting characteristics at high angles of attack and high Mach numbers, miniscule hinge moments with a marginal ...
