Innovative Blade‐Structured Rotor Design for Enhanced Self‐Cooling in Permanent Magnet Machines

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
This paper proposes a novel self‐cooling solution for surface‐mounted permanent magnet machines using a blade‐structured rotor that draws cooling air through the machine during operation. The design effectively removes heat from critical components, such as end‐windings and magnets, without additional fans or wafters.

A Soft Bionic Pectoral Fin Actuated by a Series of Differential Gear Units

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The bionic pectoral fin serves as the primary propulsion component of ray-inspired robots. In our previous research, a motion equation was proposed for the real pectoral fin, which can be modeled as a series of NACA airfoil-shaped cross-sections ...

Enhancing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Performance: A Comprehensive Review of Aerodynamic Improvement Techniques at Low Reynolds Numbers

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The increasingly prominent function of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across fields ranging from logistics and surveillance to farming and research calls for ongoing innovation in their flight efficiency. This study probes the effect of making strategic alterations in the designs of UAVs’ wings, including the implementation of dogtooth shapes, on such

Low-speed wind-tunnel investigation of wing fins as trailing-vortex-alleviation devices on a transport airplane model [PDF]

open access: yes
The trailing-vortex-alleviation effectiveness of both a one- and a two-fin configuration (semicircular with a radius of 0.043 semispan) on a jumbo-jet transport airplane model in its landing configuration was investigated in the Langley V/STOL tunnel, by

Numerical Assessments on Laminar Airflow, Thermal Characteristic, and Performance Improvement in a Round Tube Equipped With Combined Vortex Generators

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
A round tube heat exchanger (RTHE) with combined vortex generators (CVGs) is subjected to numerical assessments of its airflows and thermal characteristics. The CVGs are V‐shaped ribs and rectangular winglets. The effects of CVG arrangement (A‐1, A‐2, and B), blockage ratio (b1/H and b2/D), and airflow direction (+x, −x) on airflow and thermal behavior
