Pneumomediastinum, Pneumothorax, Pneumoperitoneum, and Subcutaneous Emphysema Complicating Extubation of a Difficult Airway Using an Airway Exchange Catheter: Is Oxygen Insufflation Innocent?: A Case Report.

A&A practice, 2020
Airway exchange catheter is a valuable tool where an airway is anticipated to be difficult to reintubate. We report a case of subcutaneous emphysema, pneumomediastinum, pneumoperitoneum, and pneumothorax after extubation using an exchange catheter. There

Utility of airway exchange catheters in pediatric patients with a known difficult airway

Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, 2005
To evaluate the utility of the Cook airway exchange catheter (CAEC) for extubation/reintubation in pediatric patients with a known difficult airway.Prospective, nonrandomized.Pediatric intensive care unit; single academic institution.Twenty intubated children

Pressure-Limited Oxygen Insufflation via the Airway Exchange Catheter: An In Vitro Study.

A&A practice
Oxygen insufflation through airway exchange catheters without pressure limitation during at-risk extubation and reintubation can cause fatal barotrauma.

Use of an Airway Exchange Catheter-Assisted Extubation With Continuous End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide Monitoring in a Pediatric Patient With a Known Difficult Airway: A Case Report.

A&A practice, 2018
Tracheal extubation in children with known difficult airways is associated with an increased risk of adverse events. Currently, there is no reliable measure to predict the need for emergent reintubation due to airway inadequacy.

Airway Exchange Failure and Complications with the Use of the Cook Airway Exchange Catheter®

Anesthesia & Analgesia, 2013
There are limited data on rates of failure and airway injury with the use of airway exchange catheters. We performed a single-center retrospective analysis of airway exchange catheters to determine the incidence and associated factors for tube exchange failure and airway injury.

Fiberoptic-Guided Use of an Airway Exchange Catheter During Exchange of a Kinked King LTS-D Laryngeal Tube for an Endotracheal Tube: A Case Report.

A&A practice, 2018
The use of supraglottic airway devices such as the King LTS-D laryngeal tube has increased in the prehospital setting because of their relative ease of successful insertion, even in the hands of inexperienced providers.

Acromegaly and papillomatosis: difficult intubation and use of the airway exchange catheter

Anaesthesia, 1999
We describe the anaesthetic management of a patient with acromegaly scheduled for transsphenoidal resection of a pituitary tumour who was found at intubation to have coexisting laryngeal papillomatosis. Oral intubation was impossible using both direct and fibreoptic techniques.
