Ultrasound for Assessment and Follow-up of Airway Stenosis

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2022
Ultrasound is a reliable tool for airway assessment and management. We evaluated the accuracy of ultrasound in the preprocedure planning and follow-up evaluation of patients undergoing airway stenting for benign upper airway stenosis. This was a retrospective single center study on patients with benign upper airway stenosis treated with airway stenting.

Airway Stents: Changing paradigms in the management of airway stenosis

Interventional pulmonology, 2019
Introduction: Central Airway Obstruction (CAO) is life threatening condition and caused by various benign and malignant conditions. Airway Stents (AS) are used to alleviate symptoms by providing patency to airway lumen. AS have gone timely modifications over the years and the reasons for their use have varied.

Acquired Stenosis of the Upper Airway in Neonates an Increasing Problem

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1980
Thirty neonates with acquired airway stenosis were treated between 1975 and 1979 at the C. S. Mott Children's Hospital of the University of Michigan. Neonates surviving a period of ventilation are at risk of developing subglottic stenosis (8.3%). The stenosis is often severe.

Metallic stent placement for malignant airway stenosis

Minimally Invasive Therapy & Allied Technologies, 2011
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the utility of metallic stents for treating central airway stenosis caused by malignant tumors. The subjects were 72 patients (16 women, 56 men; mean age, 61 years; age range, 28-87 years) treated with metallic stents for dyspnea due to tracheobronchial stenotic lesions caused by malignant tumors between May ...

Covered Balloon-Expanding Stents in Airway Stenosis

Journal of Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology, 2017
Background: The balloon-expanding stents are widely available but rarely described for use within the tracheobronchial tree. This report describes our experience with these stents in airway stenosis particularly as a lobar salvage therapy. Methods: This was a retrospective review of

Effects of Surgery on Airway Mechanics in Tracheal Stenosis

Respiration, 2009
12 patients suffering from severe extrathoracic tracheal stenosis mainly caused by long-term artificial ventilation were investigated by comparing their airway mechanics before and after tracheal sleeve resection and during long-term follow up. The investigations included body plethysmography, flow-volume relation, effect of bronchodilator, bronchial ...

Upper airway stenosis: a physiologic study.

The American review of respiratory disease, 1973
Upper airways stenosis and other forms of obstructive ventilatory disturbances were easily distinguished by the analysis of flow volume curves. This was not true for stenosis of the main bronchi. More than an increase in airway resistance, the characteristic pattern was the limitation of maximal inspiratory and expiratory flows at high lung volume.

Airway stenting for malignant and benign tracheobronchial stenosis

The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 2003
Patients with benign and malignant central airway obstruction suffer from disabling dyspnea, obstructive pneumonia, and impending suffocation. Therapeutic bronchoscopy provides immediate and gratifying palliation. Airway stenting is the principal modality used to manage intrinsic tracheobronchial pathology and extrinsic airway compression.

Airway stenting for tracheal stenosis.

The Medical journal of Malaysia, 2000
Patients with upper airway obstruction from malignant disease are difficult to manage. A 62 year old patient presented with stridor and was found to have an upper tracheal tumour. Bronchoscopy, dilatation and stenting were performed successfully. The techniques and indications for the use of dynamic airway stent are discussed.
