Airway Complications in Thyroid Surgery
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1993Perioperative and postoperative morbidity and mortality were studied in a series of 3,008 thyroidectomies. Compressive symptoms, frequent in substernal and cancerous goiters, were present in 11.0% of the patients, although a low rate of dyspnea (2.7%) was observed. In large goiters, some orotracheal intubations were difficult.

Airway surgery provides a unique challenge in that the airway is shared between the anaesthetist and surgeon. Patients may experience airway obstruction, often at extremes of age, following aspiration of a foreign body by the young or tumourrelated impediments in the elderly which are complicated by smoking-related heart and lung disease. The threat of

Nasal surgery and airway resistance
The Laryngoscope, 1979AbstractThis study investigates the effects of surgery and bronchodilatation on nasal and pulmonary resistance. The plethysmograph is evaluated as a clinical tool for nasal flow studies. The method of adapting the plethysmograph to measure nasal resistance is presented.Discriminant Function Analysis considers the effects of surgery and ...

Nonintubated airway surgery is an innovative procedure for tracheal tumors or stenosis. It avoids intubation and the interference of cross-field intubation, reducing airway trauma and postoperative complications. Utilizing supraglottic devices and short-acting anesthetics, it maintains spontaneous ventilation, facilitates surgery, and enhances recovery

Skeletal Surgery for Airway Issues
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, 2007Skeletal surgeries, specifically orthognathic procedures are an integral part of the treatment regimen for patients with airway issues. As evaluation mechanisms for, research into, and treatment options for, patients with airway issues have become refined, so have the techniques used to treat them become more focused and less prescriptive.

Functional Diagnosis in Surgery of the Large Airways*
The Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 1983The main indications for surgery of the airways are (1) non-tumorous airway stenosis and (2) tumors of the large airways with and without relevant stenoses. The aim of the following study was to find out which degree of stenosis is an absolute indication for resection and to what extent the functional disturbances are reversible following surgery.
