Electrochemical and Microstructural Analysis of FeS Films from Acidic Chemical Bath at Varying Temperatures, pH, and Immersion Time

open access: yesInternational Journal of Corrosion, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
The corrosion resistance and corrosion products of 4130 alloy steel have been investigated by depositing thin films of iron sulfide synthesized from an acidic chemical bath. Tests were conducted at varying temperatures (25°C–75°C), pH levels (2–4), and immersion time (24–72 hours). The corrosion behavior was monitored by linear polarization resistance (

The Influence of Subcritical Annealing and Cold Working on the Hydrogen Embrittlement Susceptibility of X65 D Pipeline Steel

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 76, Issue 10, Page 1478-1496, October 2025.
This study investigated the effect of subcritical heat treatment and cold work on the hydrogen embrittlement (HE) susceptibility of the X65 D pipeline steel. Hydrogen charging reduced the ductility of all specimens. Both subcritical annealing and cold working decreased somewhat the degree of HE.

A Statistical Review of Hydrogen Effects on the Fatigue and Fracture Behavior of Steel

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 48, Issue 9, Page 3613-3644, September 2025.
ABSTRACT This study conducts a statistical re‐analysis of experimental data from the literature to assess the influence of hydrogen on key mechanical properties, including the medium‐/high‐cycle fatigue strength and the threshold value of the stress intensity factor range.

Unprecedented Strength Enhancement Observed in Interpenetrating Phase Composites of Aperiodic Lattice Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 1, January 2, 2025.
A class of novel aperiodic truss lattice – inspired by the elusive “Einstein” tile – and epoxy interpenetrating phase composite (IPC) that displays an unprecedented combination of strength enhancement and toughness is reported. The highest increase recorded at 246.61% far surpasses the conventional expectations of composite performance, affirming the ...

Localized Laser Heat Treatment on AISI 1045 Steel Using a LPBF Laser

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2025.
A LPBF laser was used to locally heat‐treat the surface of normalized AISI 1045 steel bars. While sections of overheating were seen, adaptations of previously published energy density models were able to determine valid parameters to create a hardened martensitic surface.
