Investigation of Austempering Effect on Fatigue Crack Growth of AISI 4140 Steel

Defect and Diffusion Forum
The compact tension (CT) and tensile specimens of the AISI 4140 steel in cold rolling condition (untreated steel) were austempered by immersing it into the salt bath at 362°C for 60 minutes.

Timed quenching process for large-scale AISI 4140 steel shaft

Journal of Shanghai Jiaotong University (Science), 2011
The mechanical properties of AISI 4140 steel shaft with a diameter larger than 200 mm are difficult to meet the requirements and cracking occurs easily in water quenching, due to insufficient cooling ability of oil quenching. A new technology, named alternately timed quenching (ATQ), using water and air in turn as quenching media instead of oil or ...

Characterization of Friction Welding for IN713LC and AISI 4140 Steel

Materials Science Forum, 2004
Friction welding of dissimilar materials, Ni-base superalloy IN713LC and oil-quench plus tempered AISI 4140 steel, was investigated. Friction welding was carried out with various process variables such as friction pressure and time. The quality of welded joints was tested by applying bending stresses in an appropriate jig.

Selective laser melting of AISI 4140 steel

This thesis focused on investigating the microstructure and mechanical properties of Selective Laser Melting (SLM) manufactured AISI 4140 steel under a range of in-situ heat loading conditions. In the SLM process, the process parameters determine the basic performance and microstructure of an as-built object.

EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATİON OF DYNAMIC FRICTION COEFFICIENT OF AISI 1040 AND AISI 4140 STEELS

2023
A detailed study of the frictional behaviour of AISI 1040 and AISI 4140 steels, which are widely used in various engineering applications, is important for improving the performance of machines and optimising their durability. In this study, the factors affecting sliding friction and dynamic friction coefficients of steel materials are reviewed in the ...

Modeling of austenite decomposition in an AISI 4140 steel

2009
The final mechanical properties and also the distribution of residual stresses in a heat treated product, depend upon the various microstructural constituents. In heat treatment operations, in order to predict the final properties, it has become increasingly important to be able to predict the final microstructure distribution for a given thermal ...
