Low‐Temperature Thermochemical Treatments of Face‐Centered Cubic Alloys: New Perspectives for Expanded Austenite From Austenitic Stainless Steels to High‐Entropy Alloys

open access: yesMetalMat, Volume 2, Issue 3, September 2025.
Expanded austenite is a supersaturated solid solution of nitrogen and/or carbon in a metal face‐centered cubic lattice, produced by surface treatments at low temperatures. The review discusses the characteristics and properties of this phase formed on austenitic stainless steels, nickel and cobalt alloys and entropy alloys, highlighting the ...

Verification of Johnson-Cook parameters of ferritic stainless steel by drilling process: experimental and finite element simulations

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2020
Ferritic stainless steels contain 16%–30% chromium and about 0.05%–0.25% carbon in their compositions. As the carbon and chromium content is high, precipitation of carbide particles provides high strength but also causes brittleness.

Innovative flow‐through reaction system for the sustainable production of phenolic monomers from lignocellulose catalyzed by supported Mo2C.

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 17, Issue 9, May 8, 2024.
A Flow‐Through reactor has been set for the Reductive Catalytic Fractionation of lignocellulose using β‐Mo2C/AC as catalyst. The catalysts could be used in up to 15 cycles keeping both its activity and selectivity. Activity and selectivity to reduced side‐alkyl chain in the FT configuration outperformed those achieved in the batch configuration under ...

Preparation of NiNbO/AISI 430 Ferritic Stainless Steel Monoliths for Catalytic Applications

open access: yesIndustrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2014
AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel was used as a substrate to make catalytic monolithic structures. To increase the surface roughness of the substrate, the steel was oxidized at temperatures in the range of 900–940 °C and times in the range of 30–120 min. The oxide layer formed was characterized.
