Alternative phase transformation path in cryogenically treated AISI D2 tool steel [PDF]
This study based on dilatometry test and microstructural observations showed a different phase transformation path during conventional heat treatment of AISI D2 tool steel instead of the traditionally expected fully martensitic transformation. Transformation started with carbide precipitation and continued with allotriomorphic ferrite, Widmanstatten ...

The Effect of Cryogenic Treatment on W360 and E38K Hot Work Tool Steels
The cryogenic treatment facilitates the transformation of retained austenite to martensite to an undetectable limit, with about 3 times higher amount of the carbide precipitation for both steel types. Both steel types exhibit almost similar impact energy values at room temperature, but E38K steel has 2 times higher energy at 350 °C.

High‐Speed Laser Surface Structuring for Thermal Spray Coating Preparation
The article shows the possible use of fast laser structuring as a replacement for the standard process of grit blasting as substrate preparation for spray coating. For this purpose, steel surfaces are machined with continuous wave, nanosecond, and ultrashort pulse lasers and afterward coated with Stellite 6 and tungsten.
