The Akhmim Data Base: a Multi-Stage System for Computer-Assisted Analysis of Artifacts

Abstract The procedures and problems in designing and implementing a computerized data base for excavated materials from the site of Akhmim, Egypt, are discussed. In order to process large numbers of finds as rapidly as possible, and at the same time obtain meaningful data for cross-cultural comparisons, we have devised a several-stage system.
