Al-Qaida’s Failure in the Fertile Crescent
2023This chapter assesses Al Qaida’s success in taking advantage of the security vacuum caused by the 2003 Iraq war and the 2011 Syrian civil war to establish a presence in Iraq and Syria. It explains why al Qaida was far less successful in gaining a foothold in the Fertile Crescent than is widely believed.
