Phenolic Profiles, Antioxidant Properties and Predicted Glycaemic Index of Bread Sweetened With Date Syrup in Comparison With Granulated Sugar

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Date syrup are used as sweetener in bread. Bread with date syrup had superior phenolic composition, better antioxidant properties and carbohydrate hydrolysing enzymes while bread with granulated sugar had higher predicted glyceamic index. The study concluded that date syrup could be the next though‐out ingredient for dual purpose in bread. ABSTRACT The

Investigating Remote Warfare as the Radical Undoing of Life: The Compounding Civilian Harm Effects of US‐Led Coalition Bombings in Iraq

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 58, Issue 2, 2026.
Abstract The increased reliance on remote warfare by US‐led military coalitions presents us with questions of “what war is” and “how to know about war” in the 21st century. In this article we substantiate calls for an embodied epistemology of war by introducing a transdisciplinary research agenda to investigate the temporal and spatial civilian harm ...

Getting ahead of the crises: Developing an avian malaria disease management plan for Hawaiian forest birds

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 2, February 2026.
Avian malaria poses a growing threat to native Hawaiian forest birds as climate change enables its spread into previously disease‐free areas like Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge. This study presents a proactive, tiered disease management plan to help land managers monitor and respond to malaria risk, offering a model for broader conservation ...

State‐Specific Extraction of Environmental DNA: Spike‐and‐Recovery Controls to Validate and Optimise Extraction Protocols

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 12, December 2025.
Spike‐and‐recovery controls accounting for different DNA states and bacterial origins were used to validate and optimise protocols for the state‐specific extraction of environmental DNA from compost, sediment, sludge and soil samples. Despite environment‐specific differences, the recovery of spike‐ins was mainly determined by the selected extraction ...

Percent‐Level Copper Mineralisation Promoted by Copper‐Tolerant Iron‐Oxidising Bacteria in Circumneutral Mine Drainage

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 12, December 2025.
A neutrophilic Fe(II)‐oxidizing Gallionellaceae was isolated from circumneutral Cu mine drainage. It mediated Fe(III) biomineralization, resulting in pronounced Cu accumulation (up to 2 wt%) within the solid precipitates. ABSTRACT Geomicrobiology of copper (Cu) and iron (Fe) in circumneutral‐pH drainage from a Japanese Cu mine was investigated, with a ...
