We describe a nearly complete, three‐dimensionally preserved skull of a new albatross species from the late Pliocene (3.0–3.4 million years ago) Tangahoe Formation of New Zealand. Aldiomedes angustirostris, n. gen. et sp. has only about 90% of the length

THE MALE ALBATROSS IS FINALLY BACK FROM his foraging, and now there is no time to lose. His mate has been patiently sitting on their nest awaiting his return, without food, for nearly a month, and we have to get to her before she flies off to forage for herself. · Our colleague, biologist Anna Nesterova, crawls slowly toward the bird.

Warns that in TQM, there is a danger of losing sight of the original motives that prompted the endeavour in the first place. The TQM initiative can become the end, rather than the means to the end, and the participants’ lives made miserable. Explores some human aspects behind TQM failures.

ECOLOGY Populations of the wandering albatross species in the Southern Ocean have been declining for several decades. Commercial longline fishing for tuna ("by-catch”) has been implicated in this decline; albatrosses often attempt to remove bait from fishing lines, the unsuccessful ones becoming entrapped themselves.

Separating the Tristan Albatross and the Wandering Albatross Using Morphometric Measurements
