Pharmacokinetics of albendazole in man
European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1986The pharmacokinetics of albendazole were investigated in healthy volunteers and in patients receiving albendazole for treatment of hydatid disease. Unchanged albendazole was below detectable limits in plasma, urine, bile and cyst fluid. The major metabolite present in all fluids was the sulfoxide.

Albendazole Therapy for Neurocysticercosis
Archives of Internal Medicine, 1987Seven patients with chronic parenchymal brain cysticercosis were treated with albendazole for one month at daily doses of 15 mg/kg of body weight. Computed tomographic follow-up studies were made at the following times: a mean of 16 months before the trial; the beginning of treatment; the end of treatment; and three months afterward.

The efficacy of treatment with albendazole
Acta Tropica, 1991Albendazole, a benzimidazole derivative, was administered as a single dose of either 400 mg or 600 mg to two groups to ascertain the efficacy, tolerance and safety of the regimens. At a dose of 400 mg, a cure rate 35/36 (97%) against Ascaris was found. At 600 mg, the cure rate was 21/30 (70%), significantly lower than the 400 mg rate. Against Trichuris,

The disposition of albendazole in sheep
Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1989Albendazole (ABZ) was administered intraruminally at 4.75 mg/kg to sheep fitted with a permanent bile‐duct cannula to determine if its metabolites might contribute to its flukicidal action. ABZ metabolism was consistent with first‐pass clearance by the liver, resulting in ABZ sulphoxide (ABZ‐SO) and ABZ sulphone (ABZ‐SO2) being present in plasma at ...

Electrophoresis, 2000
A nonaqueous capillary electrophoretic method (NACE) for the fast determination of plasma levels of albendazole (ABZ), albendazole sulfoxide (ABZSO), and albendazole sulfone (ABZSO2) is described. The assay is based upon liquid/liquid extraction of these compounds using dichloromethane at pH 10.2 (recovery between 63 and 98%), followed by a NACE ...

Albendazole (ABZ) is one of the most important benzimidazole compounds possessing high activity against the lancet fluke, Dicrocoelium dendriticum. ABZ sulphoxide (ABZ.SO) is the main molecule present in the bloodstream of an ABZ-treated host. The aim of this study was to characterise the pattern of ex vivo uptake of ABZ and ABZ.SO by lancet flukes and

Pharmacokinetics of Albendazole in Sheep
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1980SUMMARY The concentrations of albendazole and its two major metabolites, the sulfoxide and sulfone, were measured in plasma and in ruminal and abomasal fluid of three sheep (surgically prepared with permanent ruminal and abomasal cannulae) orally given albendazole as a suspension at a dose rate of 10 mg/kg.

Simultaneous determination of albendazole sulfoxide enantiomers and albendazole sulfone in plasma
Journal of Chromatography B: Biomedical Sciences and Applications, 1998A high-performance liquid chromatographic method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of albendazole sulfoxide (ABZSO) enantiomers and albendazole sulfone (ABZSO2) in human plasma. The resolution of ABZSO enantiomers and ABZSO2 was obtained on a Chiralpak AD column using hexane-isopropanol-ethanol (81:14.25:4.75, v/v/v) as the mobile ...

Comparative metabolism of albendazole and albendazole sulphoxide by different helminth parasites
Parasitology Research, 2001Albendazole (ABZ) is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic widely used in human and veterinary medicine. The aim of the current work was to characterise the sulphoxidative metabolism of ABZ, and the sulphoreduction of ABZ sulphoxide (ABZSO), by microsomal (Ms) and cytosolic (Cyt) fractions of three different helminth species: Fasciola hepatica ...

The effect of ruminal flora on the disposition of benzimidazole anthelmintic drugs was studied in dual-flow continuous-culture fermenters (artificial rumens). Six 1,320-mL artificial rumens were inoculated with ruminal fluid and fermentation conditions were maintained constant at 39 degrees C, pH 6.4, solid dilution rate of 5%/h, and liquid dilution ...
