Microphysiological Systems for Comorbidity Studies: Chronic Kidney Disease and Osteoarthritis
This review highlights the potential of organ‐on‐a‐chip systems for studying comorbidities, using chronic kidney disease (CKD) and osteoarthritis (OA) as examples. It summarizes recent advances in kidney‐on‐a‐chip and joint‐on‐a‐chip models and discusses their current and potential application in investigating CKD, OA, and CKD‐OA comorbidity, aiming to

EXPERIMENTAL ALBUMINURIA IN THE RABBIT [PDF]
It is a well recognized fact that the excretion of albumin in the urine occurs in circulatory disturbances of the kidneys. As the kidney is very sensitive to circulatory disorders, albuminuria may occur (except in nephritis) either because of local congestion of the veins and capillaries, or because of anemic infarct of the kidney. It may also occur in

Deletion of diacylglycerol-responsive TRPC genes attenuates diabetic nephropathy by inhibiting activation of the TGFβ1 signaling pathway [PDF]
TRPC6 plays a critical role in proteinuric kidney diseases, and TRPC3 is involved in tubulointerstitialdamage and renal fibrosis in obstructed kidneys. Podocyte loss is a characteristic event in diabetic nephropathy(DN).

Urinary excretion of RAS, BMP, and WNT pathway components in diabetic kidney disease. [PDF]
The renin-angiotensin system (RAS), bone morphogenetic protein (BMP), and WNT pathways are involved in pathogenesis of diabetic kidney disease (DKD).

An ex vivo glomerular filtration barrier is engineered using electrospun, biomimetic membranes seeded with human glomerular cells. The model supports fenestrated endothelium and podocyte foot processes under flow, mimics size‐selective filtration, and enables disease modeling with hiPSC‐derived podocytes, offering a powerful platform for studying ...

Hyperfiltration during early childhood precedes albuminuria in pediatric sickle cell nephropathy
In patients with diabetes mellitus, hyperfiltration precedes the development of albuminuria. Pediatric sickle cell anemia (SCA) patients have a high prevalence of hyperfiltration and albuminuria during early childhood and adolescence.

Electrochemical Biosensor for Rapid Detection of Acute Rejection in Kidney Transplants
A low‐cost, rapid electrochemical immunosensor coated with a novel antifouling nanocomposite enables single‐step, dual‐biomarker profiling directly from unprocessed urine. Application in a clinical study shows accurate discrimination of acute rejection in kidney transplants from other acute kidney injuries via machine learning.
