Isolation and preliminary characterization of a o-nitrobenzaldehyde-degrading Alcaligenes sp. ND1 [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Microbiology, 2008
This paper reports the isolation and characterization of a new o-nitrobenzaldehyde (ONBA)-degrading bacterium, Alcaligenes sp. ND1. ND1 degraded almost all ONBA (100 mg L(-1)) in M9 medium within 36 hours. The key enzyme(s) involved in the initial biodegradation was a constitutively intracellular enzyme(s).

Rhizobacteria Exopolysaccharide: A Boon in Reclaiming Soil Fertility, Augmenting Plant Growth and Plant Stress Resilience

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
Microbial exopolysaccharides (EPS) enhance plant stress tolerance and soil health by improving water retention, nutrient cycling, and resilience to salinity and heavy metals, offering a biodegradable and eco‐friendly alternative to synthetic polymers for sustainable agriculture. ABSTRACT Microbial exopolysaccharides (EPSs) serve multiple industrial and

Thermotolerant D‐Hydantoinases for Efficient and Stereoselective Intermediate Synthesis of (R)‐3‐Isobutylglutaric Acid Monoamide, a Key Intermediate in Pregabalin Production

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 3, March 2026.
We engineered thermo‐alkali‐stable D‐hydantoinases via mutagenesis (M63A/F65H/C317T) to resolve Pregabalin's challenging chiral splitting, achieving ee value > 97% for key intermediate (R)‐3‐isobutylglutaric acid monoamide (R‐IBM) synthesis under extreme conditions (pH 10, 70°C–80°C).

Elucidation of antibacterial activity of Bacillus sp. and Alcaligenes sp. metabolites against multidrug-resistant bacteria

open access: yesNova Biotechnologica et Chimica, 2022
Different resistance mechanisms are involved in exhibiting resistance to different groups of antibiotics. Researchers are searching for new therapeutic options to encounter the emerging trend of microbial resistance. Bacteria were isolated from the extreme environment of Cholistan Desert and were screened for characterization.
