Alcaligenes xylosoxidans endophthalmitis 8 months after cataract extraction
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1999To report a case of Alcaligenes xylosoxidans endophthalmitis and to increase awareness of its potential as an intraocular pathogen. An 80-year-old woman in good general health developed A. xylosoxidans endophthalmitis 8 months after an uncomplicated cataract extraction performed at another institution.

A pseudoepidemic of Alcaligenes xylosoxidans attributable to contaminated saline
American Journal of Infection Control, 1998Alcaligenes xylosoxidans is an uncommon but serious cause of nosocomial epidemics. This report describes a cluster of two patients who underwent revision of hip arthroplasties and one patient who had a lumbar puncture. Cultures obtained during all three procedures showed A. xylosoxidans with similar antibiotic sensitivity patterns.

CAPD-associated peritonitis caused by Alcaligenes xylosoxidans sp. xylosoxidans.
American journal of nephrology, 2002Alcaligenes xylosoxidans is an uncommon cause of peritonitis in patients on maintenance continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). Peritonitis caused by A. xylosoxidans usually carries a poor prognosis because of the pathogen's virulence and its universal resistance to most antimicrobial agents.

Degradation of PCB in different soils by inoculated Alcaligenes xylosoxidans
Science of The Total Environment, 1995The degradation of PCB in soils by the biphenyl-utilising strain Alcaligenes xylosoxidans was studied in different soil types. In addition to the congener specificity, significant differences in the degradation of PCB by the strain in the different soil types were observed.

Infection by Alcaligenes xylosoxidans subsp. xylosoxidans in neutropenic patients.
Oncology, 1996Alcaligenes xylosoxidans subsp. xylosoxidans (A. x. xylosoxidans) is a nonfermenting gram-negative peritrichous rod and opportunistic pathogen. The organism is frequently found in an aqueous environment. In the past few years, nosocomial infections caused by A. x. xylosoxidans have become more evident.

Cooxidation of chloro- and methylphenols by Alcaligenes xylosoxidans JH1
World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2000Alcaligenes xylosoxidans subspecies denitrificans JH1 was enriched with 2-chlorophenol from a mixed culture degrading different chloro- and methylphenols. The strain used all monochloro- and monomethylphenols apart from 2-methylphenol as sole source of energy and carbon with stoichiometric release of chloride.

Alcaligenes xylosoxidans neonatal meningitis: a case report.
Zhonghua yi xue za zhi = Chinese medical journal; Free China ed, 1996Neonatal meningitis caused by Alcaligenes xylosoxidans is associated with a high mortality rate. The causative microorganism is resistant to most antimicrobials. Generally, once the organism has been isolated from the cerebrospinal fluid of the infected neonate, initial therapy with a third-generation cephalosporin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole is ...

Purification and Characterization of Aromatic Amine Dehydrogenase fromAlcaligenes xylosoxidans
Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 2004Aromatic amine dehydrogenase was purified and characterized from Alcaligenes xylosoxidans IFO13495 grown on beta-phenylethylamine. The molecular mass of the enzyme was 95.5 kDa. The enzyme consisted of heterotetrameric subunits (alpha2beta2) with two different molecular masses of 42.3 kDa and 15.2 kDa.
