Rate of Cooling in a Moose (Alces alces) Carcass [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Wildlife Diseases, 2019
Postmortem body temperature is used to estimate time of death in humans, but the available models are not validated for most nonhuman species. Here, we report that cooling in an adult female moose (Alces alces) equipped with a rumen temperature monitor was extremely slow, with a rumen temperature of 27-28 C as late as 40 h postmortem.

Attempts to Transfer Elaphostrongylus alces from Moose (Alces alces) to Sheep and Goats [PDF]

open access: yesActa Veterinaria Scandinavica, 1990
Six 1 year old female and 6 four months old male goats were inoculated different numbers of E. alces third-stage larvae. Protostrongylid larvae were not detected in the faeces of these animals during the experiment. At the end of the experimental period the animals were euthanized and autopsied.

GENETICS, EVOLUTION, AND PHYLOGEOGRAPHY OF MOOSE [PDF]

open access: yesAlces, 2004
Early studies of genetic variation in moose (Alces alces) indicated little variation. Recent studies have indicated higher levels of variation in nuclear markers; nonetheless, genetic heterogeneity of moose is relatively low compared with other mammals ...

Direct Interaction Between Roe Deer and Mountain Hare, a Case of Interference Encounter Competition? [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Here, we report on a case of direct interaction between a roe deer doe and a mountain hare recorded by a camera trap in Tydal Municipality, Norway, suggestive of direct interference competition. The roe deer doe is following and displacing the mountain hare for at least 2 min and 29 s, including a 19 s active phase.
